Preseason Update
Hello Diddly Nation!
A few announcements regarding the team.
A few announcements regarding the team.
- The Bonediddlies have announced their official 2010 slogan: "Commit to the Diddly." T-shirts and hats will go on sale later this month.
- The team is in a slight financial hole, as they have not found any corporate sponsor for the 2010 season. There is still hope, but most likely they will not land a sponsor.
As for the roster, there will be a few changes on the year.
- Evan Mielke, the team MVP in 2007, and 3-year left fielder, will not be with the team this year. He has decided to pursue opportunities overseas in the European Softball League. He has reportedly signed a 1-year agreement with the Madrid Magic.
- Jon Kinsey, the teams' regular second baseman in 2007 and 2008, along with being a part-time player in 2009, will also not be returning. He has decided to join the Liverpool Landsharks of the United Softball League, based out of London.
- Colin Watson, a common Bonediddly callup, has signed a minor league contract with the Bonediddlies. His spot is not guaranteed. The OF/Rover has appeared in 5 games with the Diddlies, and is well-known for his defense.
- The Diddlies also agreed to terms on a minor league deal with Mike Eversole. He will mostly be used for pitching insurance, but can also catch. To begin the season, he will report to Triple A Kalamazoo.
- As for the last roster spot, the organization is in contract negotiations with free agent outfielder Bobby Munro. Munro, an all-star in the Pacific Coast Softball league, has considered making the jump to the Wheaton Park District. Known for his defensive prowess and lefty stick, he could be a welcome addition to the lineup. If signed, it's most likely he would end up in left field.
As for the rest of the roster, a good amount of it remains the same. Mike Schmidt and Ben Robillard, the two corner infielders, have already been seen begins private workouts in Sarasota, Florida. Joe Eversole (IF), Pat Eversole (Util), David Kinsey (Util), Kevin Jednachowski (OF), Trent Sharar-Stoppel (R), Jake Brady(P) and Nolan Cruz (OF) are expected to round out the lineup.
The first game is scheduled, tenatively, for Monday, May 10th.
